I was fortunate enough to have some time the beginning of this week to be able to just spend a few hours out taking pictures and playing with my new camera! I went to many places all around town, and even though I took several pictures down by the Maumee River that would have worked for water, I actually decided to use this one that was taken at a local park. We’ve had a lot of rain lately and parts of the park have water standing. This was taken while I was walking down one of the paved paths, it shows standing water that is actually coming out onto the pathway.

Today’s Photo Hunt theme is empty and I think this is a perfect entry for it. In December, my daughter and I were making Christmas cookies and I managed to snap this picture:

She was licking cookie dough out of the bowl. This was the 2nd batch we had made, and here are the results:

These are a VERY soft sugar cookie that we don’t frost, we just sprinkle colored sugar on them.

As parents, life is full of never ending changes and discoveries, whether they are our own, or our childrens. Today, just a few moments ago, I made a discovery about my eldest child that has me still crying as I write this. No, it’s not a bad discovery, it’s one of those discoveries that touches you in a way that nothing else can.

My eldest child is a very powerful figure. He can light up a room simply by walking in it, if he allows himself to. But most of the time he prefers to stay in other peoples shadows, so as to not draw attention to himself.

Until recently, I honestly had no idea my child had a good singing voice. A few weeks ago he decided he’d like to enter into his schools talent contest and try to sing. I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t go well, but figured he was old enough to make the decision for himself. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the show, but I was told afterwards by many people that my son had a wonderful singing voice that was filled with natural talent and passion. I’ve listened to him hum along to songs on the radio in the car, but we don’t like the same kind of music, so I don’t get the chance to truly listen to his voice.

That was, until a few minutes ago. My “office” shares a wall with the bathroom, and unbeknownst to my son, I came up here to sneak in some computer time while he was showering. What brought me to tears was hearing this TOTALLY amazing voice coming from the other side of the wall. I was so awestruck that I went downstairs and got my husband so that he could hear what I was hearing, and sure enough, he did hear the same thing.

Now I just have to figure out what I can do to bolster this childs self esteem and help him improve on something that is naturally amazing! I’m not just saying this as his mom, I used to sing, we watch American Idol as a family, music has always been a huge part of my life. If my child couldn’t sing, well, I probably wouldn’t tell them they couldn’t, but I’m telling you, this kid CAN sing! I’m still crying…LOL! But I really just wanted to share that.

My hope was to get out at some point this week and take some pictures, but a major sinus infection amongst other things kept that from happening, so I had to dig through the pictures I have here on my computer, and this was the only one I thought “might” fit in…LOL!

This is a picture of my hubby and our son on moving day in August 2005. The weather was HORRIBLE hot and they had just finished unloading the trailers and took a much needed break in front of the air conditioner….LOL!

Yes, I’m serious there…LOL! This morning, on my way to an appointment, my nose started running big time and I knew that I didn’t have enough tissues in my purse so I stopped at Target to pick up a box, as well as some lotion for my hands. Imagine my shock when the cashier told me that I had prequalified for a Target card by using my PayPal debit card. I didn’t have the time at the moment to go through that process but she told me to bring my slip back later and take it to the customer service desk and they would gladly take care of me.

My first thought was YEAH RIGHT, like they’re going to approve me. Imagine how much more surprised I was when I went back and gave them the slip and was approved. Now, I know this isn’t anything major at all, it’s just a Target card with a fairly small limit. But to me it’s a feat I never thought I’d achieve. I am 41 years old and I have never had a “real” credit card. All of the ones that I have had have either been pre-paid or debit cards. So to me, this is something significant. It, in some ways, signifies that I do have an identity!

So, if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and I’ll buy you a box of tissues ;-)

P.S. I am 100% OFFICIALLY a college student! I registered for my classes today, I can pick my books up in 2 weeks and I go to orientation on April 5th at 10:00 a.m. The hubby and our son bought me a “going to college” gift today. It’s this neat little tote bag with a bunch of “things” in it (i.e. pen, note pad, address book etc.), they wanted to let me know that they’re proud of me and think I can do this…LOL!

Over the years, I’ve found out that duct tape is a must in my home. There have been many times where a piece of duct tape has saved alot of work! Today was just such a day!

Here in NW Ohio the current temperature outside is 68 degrees. Yes folks, it may still “technically” be winter, but the weather sure doesn’t feel like it. That being said, with warm weather comes one of my least favorite pests which I refer to as bees. Bees come in many shapes and names, some people call them wasps, others call them hornets, some even call them yellow jackets. Me, I just lump them all into one group and call them bees.

As I’m sitting here at my desk earlier, WITH my windows open, I see a rather unfriendly bee lurking near the edge of the window where the screen is loose. In one fell swoop I smacked that bee back outside and pulled the window shut. I then went downstairs and got my ever handy roll of duct tape and temporarily secured my loose screen to thwart off any further thoughts that bee had about coming into the window….LOL!

So folks, I give you use number 1,257,639 for duct tape: KEEPING OUT UNWANTED PESTS!

Good morning everyone! I sure hope your week went well! Things in my neck of the wood are going well this morning. The sun is starting to come out after a grey morning and the temp is supposed to be near 50 today, which, in my book, is cause for celebration.

Sorry I wasn’t around much this week, it was one of those weeks that you just wanted to get through and have it over with. I’m not going to go into alot of detail simply because I don’t want to relive it, but I will highlight a few spots. Tuesday morning we had a school delay because we got a few inches of snow over night. Hubby went into work very early since his job this time of year involves snow removal. Around 7:00 am the brakes blew out on his plow truck, so he had to get them fixed. Shortly after leaving where he had them fixed at he went to turn into one of the companies properties to do snow removal and was bit broadside in the passengers side of the truck. His truck is a 4 door truck and the accident made both doors completely unusable, but fortunately the truck was still drivable. They were very fortunate in the fact that no one was hurt! The police officer that came to the accident found my hubby at fault for the accident and he got the ticket. Fortunately it was a very nice officer who, even though he knew my hubby was “technically” at fault, felt the other driver should have been paying attention since hubby is an “emergency” vehicle, so the ticket he wrote was a simple lane violation which will put no points on his license. The only “bad” think about it is that it’s a $93 dollar ticket, but it could have been MUCH worse.

I also had problems with my son and his school on Tuesday which led to my ultimately having to pull my son out of the school and put him into a school for “difficult” children. It was a heart wrenching decision, but one that we feel is best, not only for our son, but for the entire family unit as well. He has some issues that we have to get taken care of ASAP before he ends up being another adolescent statistic. It’s gut wrenching to see your child struggle and know that there is no immediate fix for it! We’re taking many steps and getting him the necessary help, but it’s frustrating when people expect immediate results. I’m sure this all is going to turn out for the best though!

I have my 2 niece’s today. My sister had a meeting she needed to go to and her hubby is sick, so she asked me if I’d mind watching the girls, which I don’t! They have alot of fun when they’re here and I don’t get to spend that much time with them. The littlest one gets bored very easily though, so everyone is busy keeping her entertained.

I also moved my computer upstairs this morning. I had hubby’s laptop up here, but I just simply didn’t like it, so I decided that I was going to move my computer up here and let him have my desk downstairs for his laptop. I kind of like it, it’s much quieter up here, and the view out the windows beside my “desk” is awesome. I actually have the windows open….LOL! I can see the kids when/if they play out in the back yard very good room here and I’ll also be able to hear them if they start any of their shenanigans….LOL!

OK, I really need to get busy, but I thought I should update you since I wasn’t here much this week. I’ll get more time later today or tomorrow after I get some things caught up around here!

OK, as those who read here regularly know, I’m a HUGE American Idol fan! Tonight 4 people went home bringing in the top 12 for the show. I’m totally bummed over BOTH guys that went home! Sundance and Jared were 2 of my favorite guys and I think they both should have been in the top 12! I have my thoughts on who SHOULD have left tonight, but it doesn’t matter.

On to the girls, I am TOTALLY thrilled Antonelle went home, she has totally stunk for the last 3 weeks! But Sabrina going home stinks worse than my hubby’s egg salad farts! Hayley should have taken her place!

America, I luv ya with all my heart, but you TOTALLY messed up!

Now, that’s all I have to say, I’ll drop it from this point. I think it’s going to be a girls year this year, the guys just don’t have what it takes, unless there are MAJOR changes over the next 12 weeks. My favorite girls at this point are Gina and Lakisha and my favorite guys are Chris Sligh and Blake (can’t even remember his last name right now).

OK, that’s my thoughts for tonight, time for bed. I’m home tomorrow morning so I’ll update ya on my week!

Oh man, what a day this has been! I worked til 2, then had a meeting at the kids’ school WAAAAAAAY out in the country. The meeting went til almost 4, then I came home and hubby dropped me and the kids off. We waited about half an hour then ran back into town to grab a few things from the store. We got home and got groceries put away just in time for my sister to pull in with Willow at 6. Things went well with Willow, of course, the other 2 dogs were VERY curious and there was TONS of sniffing going on….LOL!

At 7 hubby and I had to be to this months township meeting. We’ve lived here for 18 months and have yet to have attended a meeting. After tonights, I’m unsure if we’ll go to another unmedicated or without something in our system to help us not laugh our butts off!! There is one lady there that is a complete whack job! The funny thing about it is that her hubby sits on the township board. I won’t go into details, but I’ll just say that she made what would have been a rather boring meeting VERY entertaining ;-)

Anyway, hubby had 2 voice messages on his cell from the kids saying that Willow was in her crate crying and wanted out and could they PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE let her out….LMAO! We put her in there before we left for her own safety because our other 2 dogs are much bigger than she is and we didn’t want to take any chances of something happening and the kids having to deal with it until we got home. But everyone was in one piece when we got home and the kids had even taken the initiative to take their showers while we were gone! :-O

She and I and our “middle child” dog are the only ones awake right now, she’s barking at him from her crate, it’s quite funny! He will go right up to the crate and she’ll bark at him and he jumps back like she’s going to get him or something…LOL!

But it was one VERY long day and I need to get this wrapped up and get to sleep myself! I’m off work tomorrow so I’ll write more then!

I tell you, I know that I’m not the brightest bulb in the box and I’m a true sucker for a cute face! As most of you know already we currently have 2 dogs. We have Harley who is an almost 2 year old Boxer/Shepard mix, he’s “my” dog. Then we have Riley who is a 14 month old pure bred Labrador with ADD, he is “hubbys” dog. So when I got a phone call from my sister last night asking me if I knew of anyone that wanted a puppy, the first thing I said was YES….LOL! Of course I said it quietly because I would have to have some time to convince hubby that we REALLY needed to have this puppy….LOL!! My sis sent me a pic of Willow and I made it my desktop wallpaper. I then minimized all the pages on my computer except one and drug that one so that only Willows forehead and eyes were showing above the webpage I had open. Every time I turned around I was saying “BUT HONEY, SHE’S LOOKING AT YOU” or “BUT HONEY, HOW CAN YOU SAY NO TO THOSE EYES”. It took less than an hour….LMAO!

She comes tonight, she is a 7 week old Golden Retriever/Shepard/Canadian Blue Heeler mix and here is a picture of her:

So yes, I am a sucker for a cute face AND a puppy….LOL! I have to go to work in a bit so I’ll fill ya in more later!
